Ulster Shredders has successfully designed and supplied a new U-45 industrial shredder to Quitmann Facilities, providing a robust and efficient solution for the bulk reduction of end-of-life packaging.

The new shredding system has been installed to process Intermediate Bulk Containers (IBCs) and large plastic drums, enabling the material to be reduced in size for onward transport and recycling into new packaging products.
With increasing requirements for PCR in new packaging, Quitmann Packaging sought a heavy-duty shredding solution capable of handling bulky, rigid containers while delivering reliable performance in a demanding environment. The primary objective was volume reduction, allowing shredded material to be efficiently transferred to back to packaging manufacturers.
Ulster Shredders worked closely with the customer to configure its proven U-45 shredder system specifically for this application. The machine features a high-torque, low-speed shredding system designed to cope with thick-walled plastics and reinforced containers, along with a robust cutting chamber and optimised cutter configuration to ensure consistent throughput and long service life.
Commenting on the installation, Dave Browne, Facility Manager at Quitmann Facilities, said:
The Ulster U-45 shredder will allow us to bulk reduce end-of-life packaging such as IBCs and plastic drums, and provide a valuable material that can be sent for further recycling into new PCR packaging products. It plays an important role in improving efficiency on site while supporting our sustainability objectives.
The installed system now enables Quitmann Facilities to significantly reduce the volume of waste material on site, improving material handling efficiency and lowering transport costs. By preparing material for further recycling, the solution supports a circular economy approach and reduces reliance on landfill or disposal routes.
Jude Diamond, Sales Manager at Ulster Shredders, added:
We are delighted to design and supply our U-45 shredder to assist Quitmann Facilities in managing their end-of-life packaging. This project highlights how our equipment can help customers create a valuable feedstock that can be recycled into new products, supporting both operational efficiency and long-term sustainability goals.
This project demonstrates Ulster Shredders’ ability to deliver bespoke industrial shredding solutions tailored to real-world recycling challenges, helping customers improve performance while meeting environmental responsibilities.
